Tape? You Taped Over Your Screen?

What kind of an idiot are you? A nostalgic idiot? What does that even mean?

It means that I’ve decided to take panoramas with the Fujifilm X-E2 and the Fujinon 16mm f:2.8 lens as the modern evocation of the classic Fujifilm and Hasselblad 35 mm panoramic cameras.

I explained this earlier in the column with illustrations taken at the Fremantle maritime memorial. It was a bright day and I was able to bring back a number of files that could be trimmed into :2.7 panoramic format. they had been roughly sighted by using the 24-square grid pattern in the EVF.

This time I am going to modify the LCD screen image more precisely with some black tape to give an exact simulation of the old format. It amounts to 16 to 6 ratio which can be programmed as a custom setting in my editing programs.

The real challenge, however, will be to see panoramic subjects in real life. I know they exist because the Kodak Colorama said so…but I also want to see if they can be had in the studio.
